2nm Chip Technology: Intel, Samsung, and TSMC's New Race : The 2nm chip technology race is heating up between Intel, Samsung, and TSMC. Samsung is set to reveal its third-generation 2nm process technology, called SF2, at the VLSI Symposium 2024, which promises significant performance and efficiency gains. This technology will feature gate-all-around (GAA) transistors and is expected to increase transistor performance by 11-46% and reduce variability by 26% compared to FinFET-based processes.
Meanwhile, TSMC is working on its 2nm N2 node, with plans to start mass production in 2025. The company claims that its 2nm node will provide the best technology, maturity, performance, and cost for chip designers.
Intel is also making strides in the 2nm race, with its 18A node expected to begin production in late 2024. Intel's CEO, Pat Gelsinger, believes that the company will regain its lead in process performance with the 18A node.
